Things to do in the area

Beaches - nature reserve Arribida

Arribida is a beautiful nature reserve.  It has one of the most stunning coastal roads anywhere with amazing views. In Arribida you will find several beaches.  The beach of Galapagos is one of our favourites, where you can also enjoy lunch. We would avoid going in the weekend as a lot of people from Lisbon go there as well.

Route

Beach - Lagoa da Albufeira

10 minutes drive from Josumi you will find a wonderful lagoon with little islands that appear depending of the tide. Childeren love it, as its shallow. The water is much warmer than the Atlantic and behind the dune there is less wind. You also have easy access to the sea from the lagoon same time.

Route

Praia Sesimbra

In the village of Sesimbra you have a long stretch of beach. Some areas with beds and parasols.  Also a few bars at both ends of the beach. Due to its protected bay there is hardly any swell and it is most of the time very safe for childern.

Route

Beach  Priaia Foz - Azoia

This hidden beach is not well known with tourists. You can park easily next to the beach. Beautiful, rugged and wild. Can have some serious swells and waves however so swim at your own risk.

Route

Praia do Meco

Popular and stunning beach on the west side of the Atlantic coast with often big swells and impressive waves, depending on the wind direction. Not always suitable for childern. Beautiful long wide beach and very suitable for a walk along the beach. It has a fancy bar/restaurant calles Bar do Peixe (nice but relatively expensive). Amazing to watch the sun set here.

Route

Praia do Carvalho

Almost feels like you are in the Caribbean. Absolutely stunning. Although it is difficult to reach by foot, it became very popular due to influencers/social media. It takes 20 min hiking down a steep hill over narrow paths and rocks to reach it. Go out of peak season.

Beautiful location and restaurant on the beach. Food is good, price relatively high, staff are slow and inexperiened. Worth a visit because of the location.
